If we imagine that there are people on this site who behave perfectly politely, treat everyone with respect, use everyone's preferred pronouns, but think within themselves that transgenderism is wrong in some way - what do you think should be done about that?
Dec 10, 2019 at 13:53 | comment | added | April Salutes Monica C. | I upvoted (well, attempted to, I'm low-rep here) only because AT THE TIME, there was no post with anything resembling details about why Monica was de-diamonded. There was Aza's post, Monica's post, and Caleb's -- I upvoted all 3 for telling me something about WTF happened.

Stones | I think you’re right: cover stories started happening the moment I transitioned, with explanations as why I was the unique person in my circle of friends not to be invited to events. There are many “I don’t get it” people who are in no way malicious, but who nonetheless sometimes say things which are iffy (and if you highlight this, they’ll reflexively feel unhappy and find a workaround). These are the people who I hope to reach. Online, it’s hard to distinguish them from genuinely malicious people, who might feign ignorance, concern, etc.
Dec 4, 2019 at 13:22 | comment | added | TRiG | "But I am worried this is just underlying anti-trans sentiment, plus a cover story." I think that this is usually true, and that most people bleating about "coerced speech" don't actually care about such ethical niceties in situations that don't involve showing respect to trans folk. I don't know that it's always true, though. I think that between the blatant transphobes and the Jordan Peterson wannabes (but I repeat myself), there are one or two people with genuine (if misguided) concerns.

Dec 2, 2019 at 14:14 | comment | added | Peter Turner Mod | sorry for the worlds worst analogy for Muslims ... trying to think of something that tastes good and usually smells good and fills your whole house that isn't bacon, but having a hard time. Maybe chocolate chip cookies.
Dec 2, 2019 at 14:03 | comment | added | Rebecca J. Stones | I'm sorry, I don't understand. I'm a Muslim and don't eat bacon. (Are Christianity.SE users the "bacon" in this analogy? And the smelly house the "anti-trans sentiment"?)
