Another reason is Stack Overflow's treatment of Monica. Whatever your position on the alleged CoC violations (reasonable people can disagree about this), Monica is treated as a random anonymous internet troll instead of a dedicated good-faith volunteer with years of outstanding service. I find the lack of empathy and kindness and the extreme inflexibility from Stack Exchange absolutely bewildering. They've repeatedly and unrepentantly kicked Monica in the teeth over a minor disagreement about the CoC. SE's refusal to engage in discourse or even acknowledge any complaints – no matter how reasonably phrased – is in itself a major violation of the spirit of the CoC.
