The virgin-mary tag is used for a lot of questions for which the perpetual virginity of Mary is not relevant. As most protestants reject the perpetual virginity of Mary this is problematic - it would be just as inappropriate as if the tag for Joseph Smith was prophet-joseph-smith for example. Personally, our use of the virgin-mary tag offends me.
I'd like to propose that the tag be renamed to a doctrinally neutral alternative, perhaps just mary (which is currently a synonym of virgin-mary) and that a new tag perpetual-virginity-of-mary be made for the questions dealing with that doctrine. If mary would be too confusing for all the other Marys, then we should choose another neutral tag.
It may also be good to reconsider whether mariology is worthy of being a separate tag. Any opinions on that?
